Acupuncture
Acupuncture is quite diverse. Systemic acupuncture, auriculotherapy, su jok, electroacupuncture, ryodoraku and laser acupuncture are some of the techniques that for over five thousand years have been used to heal mankind and by relieving symptoms improve quality of life. For decades now, it has been recognized and respected by modern western medicine.
Acupuncture stimulates the brain neurochemistry. The treatment starts with a talk with the patient, the so called anamnesis, than the physical examination and last comes the procedure. The patient can either lay or sit down according to the complaint, the disease, diagnosis and treatment chosen. Disposable needles are inserted in certain points that can be all over the body. The points are chosen according to the disharmony pattern, disease or complaint. A session usually takes about twenty minutes, but it may take longer according to the pathology in question, technique being used, patient’s age, among other things. Sessions will be as often as needed, once again, depending on the disease, chosen treatment etc. When the procedure is over, the needles are removed and the patient can leave. This kind of treatment can come with guidance so that the patient changes the life style and diet as well as physical exercises and sometimes with phytotherapy. How often a session is will depend on the pathology, the treatment and its development. Usually the treatment doesn’t hurt, but some patients who are more sensitive can feel a certain discomfort in certain points.
The patients have to feel that the responsibility for their quality of life is almost entirely theirs. We, doctors, are only practitioners being consulted. So, the path to success in any treatment depends on a good doctor, but mainly on the active participation of the patient.
